Bio for Dr. Lisa Burnett
Founder and Owner, and Lead Veterinarian
Dr. Lisa Burnett was born and raised on the East Coast in Virginia. She later moved to Colorado during high school and went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science from Colorado State University. After graduation, she returned east and settled in North Carolina, where she worked as a veterinary technician for more than 10 years. Her passion for animal care eventually led her to pursue her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine. She completed her clinical year at Texas A&M —and loved it so much that she decided to stay in Texas.
Dr. Burnett spent two years as a private veterinarian on a large working cow horse ranch in Weatherford, Texas, before returning to Colorado, where she met her husband (a Texas native). She later worked as a mixed-animal veterinarian in Cheyenne, Wyoming, for over four years before recognizing a growing need in her community for compassionate, in-home pet euthanasia services. In 2019, she founded Western Skies Colorado, building the practice from the ground up and providing care and comfort to hundreds of pets and their families. Dr. Burnett has always been devoted to offering pets the most peaceful, gentle goodbyes. In 2020, she furthered this commitment by completing advanced training through the Companion Animal Euthanasia Training Academy (CAETA). In 2024, Dr. Burnett entrusted Western Skies Colorado to a wonderful fellow veterinarian and returned to Texas—this time for good—to start her family. She and her husband are now blessed with a beautiful son. After taking time off to be with her baby, Dr. Burnett is ready to once again serve pets and families in Texas through gentle, compassionate end-of-life care.
